Local government is changing and SSDC is adapting to external pressures and opportunities by providing an ambitious, collaborative and progressive working environment.   We believe that graduates have an important part to play in helping us to improve the quality of life for our communities and supporting local businesses to prosper.  

Recently we have led a collaborative Somerset wide scheme which offered five graduates a chance to spend nearly two years on different placements in five different Somerset councils.  This unique opportunity provided them with a safe space in which to transform their education into workplace skills, learn about local government and develop the confidence to take the next step in their careers.

In the last eighteen months, we have provided opportunities for over twenty graduates, many of whom have gone on to secure roles within SSDC in their specific areas of interest or areas which have enabled them to utilise their degree study.   We aim to increase our offering to graduates and ensure that local government continues to evolve by encouraging young people to start their career with us.

South Somerset District Council (SSDC) is looking for graduates who have a minimum of a 2:2 degree and who are enthusiastic, positive, hard-working and excited about starting their career.
