Abandoned vehicles
If a vehicle is taxed, it is not considered abandoned.
You can check if the vehicle is taxed and has a current MOT. This search is anonymous.
We can help remove a vehicle if it is:
- untaxed
- on public or Council land. This includes grass verges, public access parks and play areas.
- has not been moved for at least two weeks
If the vehicle is parked unsafely or illegally, or is causing an obstruction, we advise also contacting the Police on 101.
If a vehicle has been left on your property, try and contact the owner. You can request their details directly from the DVLA.
You can also contact the Police on 101 to see if they have any interest in the vehicle. It may have been reported as stolen.

How long does it take to remove an abandoned vehicle?
The procedure for processing a reported abandoned vehicle can be found here.
The average time for removing a vehicle once it has been established it is abandoned under the legislation is 1 week where there is no registered keeper and 3 weeks where a registered keeper has been identified.
If the vehicle is claimed by the registered keeper it is no longer considered abandoned and can only be removed if the Police raise a request.
