Lufton Fleet Workshop and MOT Centre
SSDC runs a modern, light vehicle and commercial workshop featuring the latest equipment and tools to fulfil the Council's requirements. This includes servicing and repairing a variety of vehicles, for example ride on mowers, vans, trucks, specialised pavement and road sweepers and plant equipment.
We can also accommodate service and repairs on our specialised electric vehicle that covers our town centre work.
We have recently added a class 4, 5 & 7 MOT station which, not only allows us to keep everything in-house, but also reduces downtime of our operational needs.
We continue to invest in the most appropriate equipment for the workshop needs. This includes the latest DVSA (Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) approved mobile break roller tester which has been funded through a capital framework. Having the most appropriate equipment for the task ensures that we continue to operate our service to a high standard. With all our continued investment, it has allowed us to adapt our service schedule to align with our operational obligations.

Our commitment to a Green Fleet
Not resting on our laurels of operating a modern, up-to date fleet, we have been trialing a variety of electric vehicles throughout the district, including ride on mowers, ATV’s (all-terrain vehicle), pavement sweepers and vans.
To continue working towards our carbon neutral requirements, we are currently researching H.V.O. (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) fuel as an alternative to diesel. Trials are due to start in our Countryside parks shortly when minor modifications have been made to adapt vehicles and bunkered tanks.

Hackney and Private Hire (taxis)
To ensure public safety whilst using local taxi companies, we carry out over 400 Hackney and Private Hire inspections annually. This service can only be provided by SSDC at Lufton.
DVSA, Immigration, Customs and Excise and the Police regularly align their operations with us carrying out random spot checks using our facilities to ensure compliance & health and safety standards are adhered to.
